Snow? What snow?

A little background is in order, I believe. When I first started chatting on Beyond the Grave I met a really cool chica called Snwbrdgrrl. We chatted briefly, I thought she was pretty cool. But then she disappeared and Snw replaced her. Same person, shorter name. I got to talking to her and it turned out that she liked a lot of the same music I did, and the major bonus, she liked Vans. After a while we exchanged addresses and mix tapes, and it was cool. I thought, and still think, she is one of the coolest people on earth. Anyway, we met briefly a while back when she was passing through town. And so I decided that I was going to see her in her element, which is Colorado. Jacque and Rodney, never one's to pass up a road trip, wanted to go along. I was all for that since we planned to take Rodney's car. I mean, plus, it's good to have friends on a road trip. :D Ben was spending time with Rhiannon in Louisiana, otherwise he would have gone and it would have been one cramped Ford Festiva. And now, the actual story:
Friday, January 8th
Theryn's alarm went off at 7am, so I woke up long enough for her to say goodbye to me. Around 10am Rodney pages me, so I call him. He wants to run errands, and since his car is in the shop getting a new clutch, he wants me to come get him in my jalopy. I agree, and after about 45 minutes, I finally get my car running and go get him. A few errands, a stop for donuts and a picking up of Jacque, and a picking up of the Festiva later, we were on our way to Colorado. The drive from Lawrence, Kansas to Colorado Springs, Colorado is a long and boring one. It is a drive I don't recommend. If you can fly, do so. We, unfortunately, could not afford to fly, so we drove. Yahoo said the drive would take 12 hours. But we did some math and according to them, if you drove about 40 mph, you'd get there in 12 hours. We made it in under 8, I believe. The roads and sky were clear in western Kansas. The stereotypes of Kansas are well lived up to in western Kansas. It is incredibly flat and boring. At one point we almost turned around because Rodney's cd player started screwing up. It'd start sounding like the speakers were going out. We figured out that if Rodney took his foot off of the gas pedal, it would start working again. Then he changed lanes and when he signaled, the radio started working. So, for about an hour, he was flipping the lights on and off, signaling, honking, doing anything that would fix the radio. It's Miller Time! Then, as quickly as it screwed up, it fixed itself and gave us no more trouble the entire rest of the trip. We arrived around 11 I think, got settled in, Nancy(Snw) heated up some wonderful lasagna for me and Jacque, told us where some cool stuff was in the Springs and in Denver, then we all crashed.

Saturday, January 9th
When we woke up, Nancy and her beau, Tom, were already gone. They went up into the mountains to snowboard. Rodney, Jacque and I decided to go see what Colorado Springs had to offer. We drove around, went to the BigK Mart to get some disposable cameras.Jacque and Rodney After that I think we just drove around a little and we ended up in the mall. We screwed around there for a while and then we went back to the apartment for a little while. Then it was game time. We went to Old Chicago to watch the Denver Broncos soundly thrash the Miami Dolphins, 38-3. But we only stayed there for half the game, then we watched the second half at Nancy's. Soon after, Nancy and Tom came home and we all tried to figure out what to do next. My only thing was that I wanted to get out, for Nancy has two cats and I am allergic to them. Cats trigger my asthma. Nancy called some of her friends and they came over. After some recreational smoking, we all went to a quaint little pizza place.Snw and Murphy Nancy described it as "no frills", and she wasn't exaggerating. Small, styrofoam plates and small, plastic cups. But it was cool. And really good pizza too. After that we went to the liquor store, where Nancy and Jacque went in to buy some beer, and Rodney and I were jackasses and stole a cool Beer/Avalanche sign. Nancy wasn't too happy about that. Anyway, we went back to the apartment and watched Se7en. That is a fucked up movie. Good, but fucked up. Then we all crashed.

Sunday, January 10th
Nancy and Tom were off snowboarding again when we woke up. No problem, let's go to Denver. So, we start driving and it's like 45 minutes from the Springs, I believe. We get there and see Mile High Stadium and McNichols Arena. We took pictures and looked around. It is my mecca.Mile High, me, and Jacque We were going to see if the gift shop at Mile High was open, but there were all kinds of people standing in line to get tickets for the Broncos vs. Jets game. So we decided to go check out Denver and them come back. We went to some cool record stores, and found this cool little punk shop. The people were extremely nice and the selection was awesome. After that we headed back to Colorado Springs, but not before we stopped in Castle Rock to check out their Vans store. I found an awesome pair of Vans on sale for $14.99! It was too good to pass up, so I got a new pair of Vans. Because, you can never have to many Vans. Then it was back to the Springs. Nancy and Tom soon arrived and once again we tried to figure out what to do. Nancy My pubwas going to take us to this place called "The Underground" but Sunday night is Goth night, and none of us were up to that, so we just drove around and tried to find a place to eat. We ended up at Perkins. After Perkins, we drove around a bit more, talked a bit, and drove by my pub, well, it's got my name anyway. After that we just went back and sat around until we went to sleep.

Monday, January 11th
We woke up around 8:30am and went to breakfast at about 10. Nancy took us to this cool little restaurant that is inside an old house. Jacque got a pancake. It was bigger than her plate. Then we went back to the apartment, packed up and said our goodbyes. We got out of town around 12:15 and were on our way. At some point in western KansasRodney and Jacque Rodney got pulled over. He stopped at a rest stop and the cop walked up and said "Your car runs pretty well..." and he said he had Rodney clocked at 96mph. Now, we were in a Ford Festiva. We didn't even know it could go that fast. Anyway, Rodney gets a $90 speeding ticket. Rodney and Jacque use the bathroom, I take a picture of them coming back to the car, and we go home. This was a fucking awesome trip. I want to live in Colorado. Yeah.
